Longer and wider
The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLK was spied wearing camouflage which couldn't hide the vehicle's larger proportions.
Several months ago Mercedes-Benz introduced the 2014 GLA baby crossover so naturally the new GLK will grow in size a little bit to better separate the two models. The prototype spotted here has a longer wheelbase than the current generation and it also seems to be slightly wider. The hood has been elongated while the front axle had to be pushed forward in order to accommodate the stretched wheelbase.
As a result of these changes, the 2015 GLK is going to provide more space inside the cabin and its design will be considerably sportier than today's GLK thanks to a steeply sloped roof and other similar cues which should attract a younger customer crowd.
The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLK will use the underpinnings of the recently unveiled C-Class and will be offered as a right-hand drive model which will be good news for markets such as UK, Australia and Japan.
Engine lineup will likely kick off with a newly developed 4-cylinder 1.8-liter turbocharged motor in the GLK 250. The 4-cylinder 2.1-liter turbodiesel will continue to power the GLK 250 BlueTEC whereas the GLK 350 should feature a V6 engine. At this moment it's unclear whether the new GLK will receive an AMG version but most likely it will happen since Mercedes-Benz currently has such a version for nearly all of its models.
