Peugeot working on a Mercedes CLA competitor - report.

Could be called the 408 GT

According to a recent report, Peugeot is working on a sporty new model that will draw cues from the Mercedes CLA.

Details are limited but Autobild is reporting the car will be based on the 308 and be called the 408 GT. It will reportedly slot between the 308 and 408 and be positioned to battle theAudi A5 Sportback, BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes CLA.

Engines options will reportedly carryover from the 308, so petrol choices are expected to have outputs ranging from 130 HP (95 kW) to 270 HP (198 kW). On the diesel side, we can expect a variety of options producing between 120 HP (88 kW) and 180 HP (132 kW).

If everything pans out, the 408 GT could be launched in 2016.
