To be inspired by the original Jeep
A new report indicates Jeep's entry-level model will receive the Jeepster moniker when it will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.
Until now we referred to Jeep's upcoming base model as the Jeep Junior but it seems the car will be baptized with the Jeepster nameplate and will draw its inspiration from the legendary Willys. It will actually be based on the Fiat 500X and will be sold in both FWD and AWD versions.
In terms of engine lineup expect to see the motors from the Fiat 500L such as a 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo with 105 HP (74 kW), a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo rated at 160 HP (119 kW) and a more economical 1.6-liter MultiJet II turbodiesel delivering 105 HP (74 kW).
It will allegedly look more aggressive than what spy photos have shown and is set to enter production later on in 2014 after its March unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show where the Fiat 500X will also be showcased. Both versions will be manufactured at Fiat's factory in Melfi, Italy and are programmed to go on sale next fall.
