McLaren 12C officially discontinued

Owners getting free Technology Upgrade package

Following a rumor about stopping 12C production, McLaren has announced today the model will be entirely phased out.
It was bound to happen sooner or later as having the 12C and 650S in the lineup just doesn't make sense since the models are very much alike. Today, McLaren has made things official by revealing the 12C will be axed as the company will focus on its recent products, the 650S Coupe and Spider which can basically be considered a 12C facelift with a different name.
The announcement was made today through a letter sent to existing 12C owners who will be able to benefit from a free Technology Upgrade package starting June. The kit brings some of the 650S' goodies like the Active Aero software which deploys the rear wing as an Airbrake during braking and also as a Drag Reduction System (DRS) improving aerodynamics during high-speed driving in a straight line.
Moreover, the package also includes updates to the Android-running IRIS infotainment system while DAB radio and reversing camera will be available at a special price.
McLaren says they have already received enough orders for the 650S Coupe and Spider to keep them busy for the next six months of production.
