When Mercedes-Benz killed off the Maybach brand, it left the ultra-luxury class to entries from Bentley and Rolls Royce, owned by BMW and VW Group competitors. That will soon change, with the imminent introduction of the S Class Maybach. But can the S Class really sustain the fierce competition for mega-rich buyers? According to Scott Wu Kaiser, a design student at California’s Art Center College of Design, Merc should up its game, creating a new segment class.
Kaiser crafted this massive luxury car, measuring 212-inches long and boasting a 125-inch wheelbase. According to his website, the car would be powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, and enter into a class that is miles above the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8. “ A new class of vehicle called the U-Class will enter into the higher-end market”, explains Kaiser. “The letter 'U' comes from the German word 'üppig,' which means 'sumptuous' and 'lavish.’”
