Subaru considering WRX hatchback

U.S. would be main market

WRX project general manager Masuo Takatsu says the company is still taking into consideration building a WRX hatchback.
Approximately half of all previous WRXs sold in United States had the hatchback body style which is why Subaru is still thinking about introducing a hatch version of the 2015 WRX. Besides the U.S., Japan and Australia are the company's main targets but such a model hasn't been launched from day one due to limited engineering resources also to blame for the lack of an automatic transmission on the WRX STI.
Since the WRX is based on the Impreza that is offered as a hatchback, it shouldn't be that hard to convert the WRX into a five-door especially since the previous generation was so successful in the United States. It is not known when the car will come out if green-lighted for production.
