Maserati Ghibli Pickup Is As Bad As You’d Expect.

With Maserati confirming more than two years ago that by 2015, it wanted to reach 50,000 annual sales, the Italian manufacturer is obviously looking at more and more automotive markets to enter. This year we have seen the release of the more-affordable Maserati luxury sedan in the form of the Ghibli. Also, Maserati released the 2014 Quattroporte and will soon put its Levante SUV into production.
One area of the market Maserati is unlikely to ever enter however is the world of the pickup truck. This largely American segment is dominated by U.S. brands such as Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge and is foreign territory to high-end automakers. Despite this, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk recently revealed his plans to create a luxury electric pickup truck in the coming years.
But if as part of some sick nightmare Maserati did indeed create a pickup, how would it look? Well, Theophilus Chin has created the following rendering depicting a low-slung truck based on the Maserati Ghibli. Featuring a very similar size and profile to Australian utes, as a standalone pickup it doesn’t look too bad. But as a Maserati pickup truck, it looks absolutely awful and we’re thankful that Maserati is unlikely to ever venture down this path.
