So Chevy, What's Your Response to the New Mustang ?

Ford has just taken the 21st century pony car to a whole new level.
The all-new Ford Mustang is going to be one hell of a good car. It’ll certainly meet the needs of V8 enthusiasts as well those seeking a high-tech rear-wheel-drive sports car. It’s quite the package, indeed. This leads us to wonder how or when Chevrolet will respond regarding its also beloved Camaro. The current Camaro is quite a pony car as well, thanks to its base V6 along with high-performance trims like the ZL1 and Z/28. But here’s the thing: the Camaro is big and heavy.
So Chevy, What's Your Response to the New Mustang?
It’s actually based on the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the Chevy SS sedan, itself a twin of the Holden Commodore. The Camaro was never initially designed as a coupe, therefore its DNA was originally engineered for a larger car. The 2015 Mustang, on the other hand, was engineered from the get-go as a light and state-of-the-art two-door. This alone makes the underpinnings of the Camaro nearly obsolete, sad to say. So what’s Chevy’s response so far? Bubkis. However, a next-gen Camaro is in the works and it’ll be based off the same platform as the Cadillac ATS. That’s all fine and good, but until that new Camaro debuts, Chevy is going to have to hang tight and watch as Ford enjoys the fruits of its labor.
