2015 Porsche 911 Targa Spy Shots

The ‘Targa’ version of the latest 991-series Porsche 911 has been spotted testing in prototype form, this time with the least camouflage gear we’ve seen yet. The lack of cover suggests development of the car is complete, which makes sense as the car is on track to debut next month at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

Like previous 911 Targa models, the latest, likely to arrive as a 2015 model, will feature a fixed roll bar crossing the center section of the car. In front of this roll bar is a folding soft top and behind it is a glass section. In some of the earlier shots you can see a prototype with the soft top folded away.

Other than the roof system, the new 911 Targa should essentially be the same as the 911 Carrera or Carrera S, depending on which trim is chosen. This means the base 911 Targa will feature a 3.4-liter flat-six engine good for 350 horsepower and 287 pound feet of torque, while the 911 Targa S will benefit from a 3.8-liter flat-six engine putting out 400 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.

A seven-speed manual will come as standard, with Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission offered as an option. There should also be all-wheel-drive variants, just like the previous generation, which means you can expect to see Targa 4 and Targa 4S models as well.

Sales should commence in the spring.
