Ford makes a trademark request for 'Model E'.

Could be a concept

Ford has submitted a trademark request for the "Model E" designation with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Ford Authority says the trademark filling was done on December 3 and has been categorized in the Automobiles section of Goods and Services. The chances of Ford revamping its naming structure are slim at the moment so we probably won't see the Blue Oval company going back to its classic formula with "Model" being followed by a single letter.
The filling is quite interesting taking into account Ford never made a Model D and since Model E probably won't be a production car chances are it will be a concept which could receive an electric powertrain. Lastly, let's not forget Tesla's upcoming entry-level model is rumored to receive the "Model E" moniker once it comes out in 2015.
