Old Dodge Vipers Aren't So Dangerous After All.

It's only their drivers who are the hazards.

A while back the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into 2003-2008 Dodge Vipers because of suspected rear suspension problems that could lead to a crash. It all got started after eight reports came in claiming there was a possible rear suspension knuckle failure that led to accidents. The investigation lasted eight months and involved some 9,670 Vipers.

These specifically included the SRT-10, Competition Coupe, and ACRX race car. But in the end there’ll be no recall because the suspension issue wasn’t the cause of the crashes. Instead, the suspensions were damaged as a result of being in a crash; the Viper drivers are the ones who messed up. Chrysler investigated as well, and came to the same conclusion. The automaker also recommends if the old Viper’s steering knuckle or control arms are damaged in a crash, the bearing and hub should be replaced immediately. And, of course, both Chrysler and the NHTSA recommend Viper owners to drive safely. That alone should help to prevent accidents.
