New engine family to be jointly developed with Porsche
Audi's head of technical development has revealed some new details about the company's future product lineup.
Speaking to Car & Driver, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg confirmed "there will be RS versions topping almost every vehicle range." While nothing is official, the next RS variant could be an RS3.
Hackenberg also revealed the second-generation MLB platform, dubbed MLB Evo, will debut on the next-generation Q7. The model is slated to be significantly lighter than its predecessor and arrive by the end of 2015.
The board member also confirmed plans for a new engine family. Hackenberg declined to go into specifics but said the engines will be jointly-developed by Audi and Porsche.
Speaking of engines, Hackenberg said a V10 TDI - like the one used in the Nanuk concept - would be "easy to do" but the company hasn't green-lighted it. Despite hinting at the possibility of a V10 TDI, Hackenberg downplayed the possibility of a V12 TDI by noting the volumes would likely be "very small."
