Getting Focus ST engine
Mexican automaker Mastretta has announced a revision for the MXT sportscar which will be unveiled later this year ahead of the model's European debut set for 2015.
Some of you might remember the Mastretta MXT from Top Gear as Richard Hammond tested the vehicle in series 19, episode 4. Now, the Mexican marque says an updated version is in the works and will also be sold in Europe, unlike the current version which is exclusively available in South America in a limited production run of 50 cars per year.
The 2015 MXT will ditch the Ford-sourced 2.0-liter Duratec engine to make room for a 2.0-liter EcoBoost motor taken from the Focus ST. Besides the engine transplant, Mastretta plans to put the car on a considerable diet which should lower the curb weight to less than 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs). Lastly, the 2015 MXT will also feature an updated front fascia which will probably be more suitable for European tastes.
