The line is pretty clear cut: when girls head into a Volkswagen dealership, they make a beeline to the overly-sweet New Beetle, with its eccentric, retro design and soft, cushy lines. Guys, on the other hand, will opt for the Golf, preferably in GTI or R trim. Well, what if that too-cute Beetle had its 2.0-liter TSI engine tuned to higher performance, making 256 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque? That’s what German tuner Mcchip-DKR SoftwarePerformance decided to find out.
Beyond the engine tuning, this Beetle also receives several ABT Sportsline parts, like new wheels, headlight covers (“eyelids”), bumper inserts and a new, oval-tipped exhaust system. OK, these may not be the manliest parts that could have been tacked on, but they sure make this VW a lot more appealing than your run-of-the-mill neon pink example – one that may be a little bit less emasculating for you to drive.
