Rides on Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires
After talking about Camaro Z/28's Performance Traction Management system, Chevrolet has released a video in which they explain how they found a solution to a problem which usually occurs on racecars.
During the development of the 2014 Camaro Z/28, engineers noticed the tires were generating so much traction and the brakes a lot of stopping force that the wheels actually rotated within the tire, an issue which you would normally find on a racecar. Pirelli is in charge of providing their P Zero Trofeo R tires while Brembo delivers its carbon-ceramic brake rotors.
This problem on racecars is solved by applying abrasive paint around the wheel's bead where the tire meets the rim but it wasn't strong enough on the Camaro Z/28 to prevent the tire from slipping. They've come up with the solution of "media blasting" which refers to "shooting a gritty material through an air gun at the wheel's surface, adding texture to the paint for the tire to grip."
Set to reach dealerships this summer from 75,000 USD, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is powered by a massive V8 7.0-liter LS7 engine outputting 505 bhp (376 kW) and 481 lb-ft (652 Nm) of torque.
