If the Model X is a success, Land Rover could offer an EV
Jaguar Land Rover engineering director Wolfgang Ziebart has revealed some new details about the company's future lineup.
Speaking to Autocar, Ziebart said hybrid systems will become the "dominant drivetrain among ‘upper class’ models." This likely means we can expect to see more hybrid variants, particularly in markets with stricter fuel economy and emission standards.
Ziebart also revealed the company is keeping a close eye on the Tesla Model X. As he explained, “We can’t neglect any segment, and if a segment gets stronger and shows momentum, we would have to react. But we have not made a decision about an EV model.”
Besides the fuel savings tech, Ziebart said the company is working on advanced driver assistance systems to reduce accidents. The initiative will reportedly spawn a new WiFi protocol that will make car-to-car communication systems more feasible.
