Despite huge advances in safety precautions, motor racing is still a dangerous sport. High-impact collisions with other cars and barriers are expected from time to time. Suddenly and abruptly burning to the ground for no apparent reason, however, is not something you want to see at the beginning of a marathon race. But that’s what happened to Bean Keating’s SRT Viper GT3-R just 30 minutes into the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Within seconds of stopping on the track, the Viper racecar inexplicably went up in flames. Keating escaped with no injuries and the safety crew was able to extinguish the flames without too much bother.
