Love it or hate it, Consumer Reports has a loyal readership who takes its opinions and recommendations (or lack thereof) very seriously. Car enthusiasts may not always agree with CR on many things, but the publication clearly has the buying public’s best interest at heart. Along with its annual best and worst cars issue, CR announces its findings for the best cars in nearly every segment. And now it has revealed what it considers to be the best sports cars on the market today.
Coming in at number one is the newly redesigned Porsche Boxster. CR applauded its quick, direct steering and super-agile handling. It also noted its improved fuel economy, better noise isolation, and a better designed interior. Coming in second was the Mazda MX-5, followed by the Ford Mustang GT. CR noted that these latter two will soon be replaced by redesigned models. And if you’re on a strict budget, you apparently can’t go wrong with the Ford Fiesta ST, Mustang V6, and the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. What CR didn’t recommend is the Chevrolet Camaro, Nissan 370Z and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
