Audi doesn't rule out a hardcore RS1

S1 designer says 'wait and see'

Audi has not excluded the possibility of launching an RS1 variant to sit on top the recently unveiled S1 / S1 Sportback.
Our colleagues from Motoring asked Audi S1 designer Frank Gruner whether he is working on designing the RS1's exterior and his response was "wait and see", indirectly confirming the existence of such a model. Needless to say, it would have more power than the S1 which pumps out 231 HP (170 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI.
If there won't be an RS1, chances are we could see a model similar to the A1 Quattro which came out in 2012 with 256 HP (188 kW) and was limited to 333 units. It should be mentionedMotoring found out from Ulrich Weirl (team leader for S1’s engine development) that more powerful versions of the EA888 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine could be squeezed in the A1's small engine bay. However, he said it's too early to talk about a more powerful S1, a logical response because it wouldn't be appropriate to talk about a new derivative since the S1 was introduced only about a month ago.
