Returning to turbos
Ferrari is officially entering a new turbocharging era with the revamped California T that has made its debut today in Geneva.
Maranello's entry-level model has received a complete makeover with an exterior that takes cues from higher-end models such as the FF and F12 Berlinetta while the retractable hard top has been retained and will retract in 14 seconds.
Inside it gets semi-aniline leather Frau seats along with a redesigned center console a a new 6.5-inch touchscreen display part of the updated infotainment system. The cabin can also be configured with a 1280-watt JBL Professional sound system with 12 speakers and a 16-channel amplifier.
The most important change resides underneath the hood where Ferrari's engineers installed V8 3.8-liter turbocharged engine outputting 560 HP (412 kW) and a peak torque of 556 lb-ft (755 Nm). The California T needs 3.6 seconds to complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) journey and 11.2 seconds until 124 mph (200 km/h) before topping out at 196 mph (316 km/h).
More powerful and faster than its predecessor, the Ferrari California T is also 15 percent more economical and has slashed 20 percent of its CO2 emissions. Its suspension system has also been tweaked by installing new springs and dampers, along with a better F1-Trac traction control system and reworked carbon ceramic brakes.
With the California T, Ferrari is returning to turbocharging after the F40 which was phased out in 1992.
