Land Rover Freelander replacement spied in high-performance guise

Should become part of the Discovery family

Our spies have snapped countless photos of the 2015 Land Rover Freelander replacement but today they caught a high-performance variant.
Dressed in a modified Range Rover Evoque body, the crossover has an aggressive front fascia with a wide grille that is flanked by massive air intakes. We can also see a dual exhaust system which hints at something powerful under the hood.
Speaking of the latter, speculation suggests the crossover could be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops approximately 300 bhp (223 kW). It is likely connected to an automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.
Our spies couldn't get close enough to snap interior photos but the production model could be equipped with sport seats, carbon fiber trim and alloy pedals.
Land Rover has been relatively tight-lipped about the model but they recently confirmed plans to offer a family of Discovery models. As a result, the Freelander replacement and this high-performance variant will likely become part of that family.
