Fastest Astra ever
The Opel Astra OPC EXTREME show car for this year's Geneva Motor Show was spotted in the metal while arriving at the Swiss auto event.
Opel's fastest-ever Astra to roam public streets is about to receive its official public outing ahead of a confirmed limited-production run. Compared to the OPC version it has lost a significant 220 lbs (100 kg) as a result of getting carbon fiber wheels, roof, hood as well as aluminum fenders.
Under the hood it packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine made entirely out of aluminum which delivers 300+ bhp (224+ kW). All those ponies are sent to the front wheels with help from a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Hopefully Opel will release performance details of the model next week in Geneva since the car must be significantly quicker than the standard OPC derivative as a result of the added horsepower and lower curb weight. As a reminder, the Astra OPC does 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and has a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed.
