Stars of 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed Announced

Mercedes to be featured marque at this year's festival, while Sebastien Loeb has his sights on the hill climb record.

To celebrate 120 years in motorsport, Mercedes-Benz will this year be the “featured marque” at June's Goodwood FOS, with historic race cars to be displayed atop the festival's centerpiece. Historically important Mercedes racing cars will also be on show, some of which will make it up the hill. Famous three-pointed star racers confirmed for the event include 1930's W125 and W165 single-seaters, a CLK GTR and a McLaren MP4-19 on loan from Red Bull technical boss Adrian Newey's private collection.

Maserati will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a unique 20-car collection of racers ranging from a rare 1926 Tipo 26B to a modern-era MC12.Jaguar also has something to celebrate, and will come to the show with a collection of rare D-Type endurance racers to mark the 60th anniversary of the D-Type's first Le Mans victory in 1954. Eight contemporary F1 teams will be joined by this year's Le Mans winner, while Honda has announced a major unveil as it plans to take a prototype of the new NSX supercar up the hill alongside a 1989 NSX once driven by Ayrton Senna. BMW will arrive with the i8, new M3/M4 and M4 Convertible, as well as a special edition M5 to mark 30 years of the model.

Bentley will run up the hill in a Continental GT3 race car, while a Continental GT V8 S will be joined by an array of classic and modern models from the range. Goodwood has also announced “an entire class for Americana.” NASCAR legend 'The King' Richard Petty is to make his second appearance at the Festival in his 1984 final win STP Number 43 Pontiac, and will be joined by Al Unser in his 1978 Indy 500-winning Penske Lola. Finally, Sebastian Loeb is going to make a serious attempt at breaking the hill record that has stood since 1999 when Nick Heidfeld clocked a time of 41.6 seconds in a McLaren MP4-13. Loeb will make the attempt in a Peugeot 208 T16 that smashed the Pikes Peak record last year by a minute and a half.
