Having split the cars from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show into different categories and taken polls from our readers, we now bring you the top 5 cars from this year’s show based on these results and our own analysis. Supercars, concepts, hot hatches, and tuners filled the Palexpo with some of the finest cars on the planet laid bare for our examination. For the purists, Koenigsegg’s unrivaled One: 1 was the car of the show, but Lamborghini has a strong case with the Huracan. Maserati stunned with its Alfieri concept, while Honda and Mansory also impressed. Check them out.
Maserati is currently going through a renaissance, and it’ll soon kick off its new design language with one incredible debut. A new 2+2 sports car is on the horizon, and it’ll compete head-to-head with the likes of the Jaguar F-Type andPorsche 911. Maybe even Maserati sister brand’s California T. The potential is huge here, and our confidence in Maserati’s ability to make it happen was secured with the Alfieri Concept. Just look at it. It’s utterly beautiful from every angle. Assuming it gets the green light, the production version will stay very close to this stunning concept.
Mansory launched the Bugatti Veyron Vivere in Geneva as a follow up to its Vincero that was revealed three years earlier. The updated model gets a host of new carbon-fiber parts including a new front fascia with freshly-designed wings, a shorter hood and redesigned apron. V-shaped LED DRLs, aero-optimized side skirts and bigger air outlets are other distinguishing features as are the unique rear diffuser and two air intakes at the back. Five double-spoke alloys round off the new look, while the cabin receives a leather-wrapped steering wheel, carbon-fiber trim and LED ambient lighting in the doors.
The new Honda Civic Type R offers a look at how the Japanese carmaker intends to set the next Type R apart from stock Civics, while signaling “a new era for the marque.” The concept’s extreme styling includes a massive rear spoiler, new bumpers, bigger grilles, side skirts, widened fenders and a set of 20-inch alloys. Under the vented hood lurks a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 276 horsepower. We can't wait to see this thing in action, and hopefully, in the US.
This just may have been the absolute star of the show. The Koenigsegg One:1 is nothing less than stunning. It has a total of 1,340 horsepower and a top speed of 270 mph. Koenigsegg calls it the world’s first “mega car.” And that's not only because it delivers 1,000 kilowatts of power. Just six examples will be built, all of which are sold. Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 built and bred by Koenigsegg themselves. That rear roof-mounted rear wing is not just for show. Despite looking downright awesome, it’s there to take aerodynamics to a whole new level.
As the successor to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time, the new Huracan has very high standards to live up to, and the Italian supercar builder is confident that it will. Powered by a 5.2-liter V10 that’s good for 610 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, the Huracan has a top speed of 202 mph and a 0-62 mph time of just 3.2 seconds. Despite being a bit heavier than the Gallardo, the Huracan offsets this thanks to utilizing more lightweight build materials and increased dynamic technology.
