Would They Really? Ford Planning a Focus ST Diesel?

Just don't expect it to come to the US (as usual).
The European market has the Volkswagen Golf GTD, along with many other diesel-powered hatchbacks. Of course not all of them are hot hatches, but the fact is that diesels in general are quite popular overseas. Heck, even the Mini Cooper is offered with an oil burner in Europe. That Golf GTD, for example, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four diesel with 181 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Quite impressive, really. Ford certainly thinks so.

Perhaps that’s why it may soon offer a diesel of its own for the Focus. But not just for any Focus: Ford wants a Focus ST diesel. According to a new report coming from Auto Express, Ford is planning to drop a 2.0-liter TDCi engine with 182 hp under the hood of the ST. The ST’s suspension and steering will remain unchanged from the gasoline model. It sounds like a great package, but (as always) here’s the downside: the Focus ST diesel will be for Europe only. Nothing was mentioned regarding the possibility of it going on sale in the US.
