xDrive-only BMW X2 confirmed to enter production in 2017

Based on the second-gen X1

A reliable BMW insider has announced the X2 is slated to enter production sometime in 2017.
BMW apparently believes there is room in the lineup for an additional X model in the form of an X2 set to share platform with the second-generation X1. The BMW insider says the X2 will be available exclusively with an xDrive all-wheel drive system and will adopt a five-door configuration but with a more three-door coupe profile, as seen in the larger X4 and X6.
This is the second time a report indicates a 2017 release date for the X2 so chances are the project has already been signed off. Power will come from X1's engines linked to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic.
In related news, the same BMW source says the upcoming MINI Countryman has been developed as a "proper go-anywhere SUV" in the same lines as the firm's Dakar rally car. Although rumors are saying the Paceman will be dropped, the report mentions it will live on and will adopt a more stylish and sporty approach but with five doors for added practicality.
