Detroit Electric SP:01 slated for production later this year

An April Fool's Day joke a year in the making

The Detroit Electric SP:01 was slated to go into production last August but after a series of delays the company has reportedly targeted production for later this year.
According to The Detroit Bureau, Detroit Electric will begin building the SP:01 in Holland later this year. However, the company hasn't given up hopes of returning to the Motor City as they are reporting planning to produce an electric sedan in Michigan later this decade.
While we're not getting our hopes up, as the company has previously announced plans to begin building the SP:01 in Holland last year, the car is based on the Lotus Exige and features a mid-mounted electric motor that produces 201 bhp (150 kW) and 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) of torque. This should enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
