Sources close to Fiat-Chrysler told Automotive News that Alfa Romeo will become a stand-alone company.
It's that time of the month for some rumors about Alfa Romeo's future and according to the latest gossip Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has decided to turn Alfa into a stand-alone company (just like Ferrari and Maserati) which means it will be pulled apart from Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. which also contains Lancia, Abarth and Fiat Professional (commercial vans).
It is believed Sergio Marchionne will make this decision official on May 6 when he will detail the new strategy for Fiat-Chrysler. The plan to revamp Alfa Romeo will include Ferrari-developed engines to power forthcoming RWD sedan and crossover/SUV models. In addition, the MiTo and Giulietta will likely be terminated while a new Spider will come out in 2016 riding on the same platform as the next-gen Mazda MX-5.
A crossover is slated for a 2017 release while an SUV is planned for 2018 and all these new models are also going to be sold within Jeep's dealer network outside North America which consists of 1,700 showrooms.
