Cars that can drive through water normally don’t look, well, cool. Take the Amphicar, for example. It looked like a clown car built on an old VW Bug chassis. Its proportions, not to mention its wheelbase, were just off. It wasn’t so much a car as it was a piece of 1960s tech gear designed by a German and sold to eager Americans who didn’t mind looking ridiculous both on road and in the water. But that was then.
Today there’s the Amphicruiser. Handmade in the Netherlands (which is conveniently located next to Germany), the Amphicruiser actually looks the part of a true off-road adventurer.
Not only can it make its way through rough roads, but it also has an onboard jet that allows it to reach speeds of up to 7 knots (about 8 mph). The Dutch company states its 4x4 creation is "built from the most reliable parts available," such as a 4-liter Toyota engine. So let’s get this all straight: this thing can drive through water without breaking a sweat, do some serious off-roading, and look damn good while doing both. Time to find some swamps and dirt roads.
