Based on the Holden Commodore
The 2014 Chevrolet SS pace car caught fire during this weekend's NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, Florida.
It was a bad day for Chevrolet's marketing department when a Chevrolet SS working as a pace car for the season-opening Sprint Unlimited exhibition race caught fire while leading the field. The Holden Commodore-based vehicle's cabin was filled with smoke and so pace-car driver Brett Bodine had no other way but to stop the flaming automobile.
The good news is Bodine and his co-pilot got out of the car without suffering any injuries, while the literally hot SS was replaced by another car to perform the pace car duties. Chances are the car caught fire due to the added electrical gear necessary for a pace car since the fire came from the back.
