Peugeot plotting 408 GT to rival CLA

Due in 2016

Peugeot is allegedly working on a 408 GT model to tackle the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
The rumor about a 408 GT is back as according to British media Peugeot is planning to develop a competitor for the Mercedes-Benz CLA. Slated to go on sale in 2016, the new model will ride on the firm's EMP2 platform with the interior mostly carried over from the new 308 but with more premium materials. On the outside it will be wider, lower and longer than the 308 and should adopt a more aggressive styling likely to be previewed by an upcomingBeijing-bound concept.
The engine lineup will probably be carried over from the second generation 308 so expect to find turbocharged gasoline motors from a 1.2- to a 1.6-liter with outputs varying from 128 bhp (95 kW) to 168 bhp (125 kW), while 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels will deliver 118 bhp (88 kW) to 178 bhp (133 kW).
Aside from a four-door coupe 408 GT, Peugeot is also working on a 6008 crossover as well as a range-topping 608 sedan which should come out in 2017.
Note: Peugeot concept set to be unveiled in April at 2014 Beijing Motor Show pictured.
