This is the Best New Car You Can Now Buy (Supposedly)

According to Consumer Reports, at least.
Whether you take its advice or not, Consumer Reports is known for doing extremely thorough car testing. While many other publications focus on things such as performance and handling, CR prefers to look at the whole picture, tossing in the reliability and safety factors as well. And every year CR releases its list of the best and worst cars it tested. There have been a few surprises in the past and this year, well, may not come as a complete shocker to everyone.

After taking everything into account, CR has just announced the Tesla Model S is the best overall car on the market today. Noting its "blistering acceleration, razor-sharp handling, compliant ride, and versatile cabin," the Model S is a "glimpse into a future where cars and computers coexist in seamless harmony." Aside from that last bit of poetry, CR was even more impressed with the EV’s 225-mile range and relatively short 5-hour charges. Yes, the car is pricey, with an as tested sticker price of $89,650, but the Tesla Model S is just one hell of a car.
And it’s not only CR singing its praise. Motor Trend even named the Model S its 2013 Car of the Year. Aside from those occasional fires, so far it’s been hard to find anything really negative about the Model S. Yes, it’s an EV, but at least it’s an EV done right.
