'Will be more desirable to look at'
Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said the next generation of the Defender "will be more desirable to look at."
In an interview given to Shropshire Star, Gerry McGovern promised the new Defender is going to focus on design since the model's looks haven't changed at all over the years so it "will have to wash its face." As a result, the next generation Defender is going to be "more desirable to look at" with a "distinctive silhouette" and without looking "overtly functional."
Due to the extra attention given to aesthetics, McGovern expects the next-gen Defender will not suit traditionalists "but they'll have to live with it." Exact details about the design have not been disclosed, but the model could carry the spare wheel on the back. We do know the new model will be lighter and more aerodynamic than the current boxy Defender which is programmed to exit production phase in 2015.
