2015 Hyundai Genesis introduced in Detroit, expected to start below 40,000 USD

Hyundai has unveiled at NAIAS the second generation of the US-spec Genesis which will likely have a starting price below 40,000 USD.

The premium sedan is virtually the same as the KDM version and will be sold with the same V8 5.0-liter Tau engine developing 420 bhp (313 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque at 5,000 rpm. There's also a smaller V6 3.8-liter direct-injected Lambda engine with 311 bhp (232 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 293 lb-ft (397 Nm) at 5,000 rpm. These two engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capabilities via the steering wheel-mounted shifting paddles.

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis comes as standard with rear-wheel drive but for the first time in the car's history clients will be able to configure the vehicle with an all-wheel drive HTRACsystem weighing 165 lbs (75 kg). Safety equipment includes nine airbags, Electronic Stability Control and anti-whiplash front head restraints. Stopping power comes from 13.6-inch front rotors for the 3.8 model and bigger 14.2-inch front rotors for the V8 model, with anti-lock disc brakes, Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution.

Its exterior design is the result of implementing Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 and dare we say the Koreans did a good job as the new 2015 Genesis looks considerably more premium than its predecessor, sporting a hexagonal front grille and a dynamic crease which runs along the car's length. The longer wheelbase combined with shorter overhangs provide the vehicle with a more up-market look which will be appreciated by those who haven't considered a South Korean luxury car so far.

The overhauled interior offers 123 cu. ft. of volume which makes it more spacious than segment rivals such as Cadillac CTS, Lexus GS, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Goodies include 12-way power front heated and ventilated seats, heated rear seats, manual rear side sunshades and a panoramic sunroof. Another novelty is the second-gen Blue Link system debuting on this model where it offers support for Google Glass and comes with an Automatic Collision Notification system that in the event of an accident will notify user-selected emergency contacts via e-mail and SMS.

Hyundai has announced they are aiming to keep the starting price below the 40,000 USD mark but so far a price list hasn't been published.
