Full details to be disclosed in May
Automotive News is reporting Alfa Romeo's newly developed rear-wheel drive platform has received the "Giorgio" moniker.
At the end of October Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said something about Alfa Romeo's future and promised to provide additional details at the end of the first quarter of 2014. AN now specifies the full strategy plans will be disclosed in May when Fiat-Chrysler will publish its first quarter results.
It seems Alfa Romeo has a fourth revival plan outlined and it involves a brand new rear-wheel drive platform entitled "Giorgio." It will be flexible enough to allow all-wheel drive models and has been developed by a small team from Maserati headed by Philippe Krief. The platform is expected to be implemented in upcoming Chrysler and Dodge models since it wouldn't create enough volume if it would be used only for the Alfa Romeo brand.
This fourth revival plan reportedly specifies a duration of five years during which Alfa Romeo will launch mid-size and large coupes, along with a flagship sedan and no less than three crossovers. Also in the pipeline is a 4C Spider, as well as a Mazda MX-5-based roadster while hatchbacks will be axed from the lineup.
