How does the GT3 compare to its production equivalent?
It’s not every day you get the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit all to yourself, but then Chris Harris doesn’t tend have normal days. His latest adventure involves piloting a pair of AudiR8s: First the roadgoing R8 V10 S-Tronic and then Audi’s R8 LMS Ultra GT3 racecar. Both cars are powered by the 5.2-liter V10, which in the street-going R8 comes packing 525 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Regulatory restrictions means those figures are considerably less in the GT3 racer.
Thanks to an aggressive aero package, a sequential, pneumatically activated six-speed box, plus cutting edge traction control and braking software, the racecar uses enhanced variants of the R8’s best bits. And the result is awesome.
