Features a driver-controlled center mechanical differential
Subaru has unveiled today the range-topping WRX STI in Detroit which will be available exclusively as a sedan.
We've already seen the new WRX STI in several leaked official photos published about a week ago so the design holds no surprises. Wearing a bold body kit with a massive rear wing, the 2015 WRX STI is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine delivering 305 bhp (227 kW) at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 290 lb-ft (393 Nm) available at 4,000 rpm.
The engine works exclusively with an updated 6-speed manual gearbox sending power to the firm's symmetrical all-wheel drive system with a multi-mode driver-controlled center mechanical differential. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 245/40 R18 summer performance tires and benefits from an inverted-strut front suspension promising to bring improved handling.
Subaru has planned a Launch Edition limited to 1,000 units which will all be offered with the traditional WR Blue paint and gold BBS forged alloy wheels as well as a bespoke cabin with an STI short-throw shifter among the added goodies. This Launch Edition will be available from April until June at a yet undisclosed price tag.
