Porsche 911 boss downplays the possibility of a new 911 GT2

Suggests there could be a GT3 RS instead

Our spies have already snapped pictures of what we assumed was a 911 GT2 but Porsche 911 boss August Achleitner has suggested it could be something else altogether.
In an interview with Car & Driver, Achleitner said the model hasn't been green-lighted as it is being held up by company politics and technical issues. Speaking of the latter, Achleitner said "If you take a look at today’s Turbo S and the performance this car produces . . . you cut away the front-wheel drive for the GT2, but the car loses traction." The loss of traction would likely make the GT2 slower than the Turbo S, so it's possible that some within the company don't see the need for the model.
Despite the possibility of not offering another GT2, Achleitner hinted "There are some rumors about a GT3 RS or something like this..."
