230 horsepower baby S will be revealed in March, and go on sale in Europe in May.
Audi’s hot, tiny hatch will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, sporting a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine already used in the S3. Adding an S body kit, bigger bumpers and the signature S badge to the A1 model, the smallest S line money can buy should be available in three and five door configurations, both with an aggressive tailgate spoiler and four exhaust pipes.
The four-wheel drive Quattro will produce 230 horsepower from a four-cylinder engine, and is expected to be priced to rival the VW Golf GTI. As we reported earlier, Audi has ruled out the option of an RS1 super-performance model. Meanwhile, the S model’s engine, coupled with the company’s S-tronic transmission, should provide enough power to thrust this tiny hatch to German-standard speeds. A previous special addition A1 Quattro offered 252 horsepower from the same engine and banged out 0-60 mph times of 5.5 seconds. While only 333 models were manufactured, we hope the mass-produced S1 will offer equally enticing numbers.
