Production model due later this year
MINI has introduced a production-intent John Cooper Works concept at NAIAS this week in Detroit.
The concept was previewed last month by MINI and a production model looking a lot like this will come out sometime this year to sit on top of the newly established MINI range. BMW has a lot of plans for the MINI lineup expansion with plenty of body styles in different sizes to appeal to a broader crowd although some would say the essence of the original MINI keeps getting farther away with every new model.
The JCW concept seen here wears a more aggressive body kit painted in Bright Highways Grey with red accents. It sits on funky 18-inch alloy wheels and has received a roof spoiler to complete the aero kit created for improving the car's stability during high speeds. MINI didn't say what powers the concept but most likely the production version will make use of a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at around 217 bhp (162 kW).
