1961 Porsche 718 Spyder is Your Chariot to Heaven.

But it will cost you a couple of million to meet your maker in style.
Old and rare Porsches always bring in a pretty penny at auction. And when they have interesting histories, those prices increase even higher. This 1961 Porsche 718 RS 61 Spyder is just one of 14 RS 61s ever built and it’s also been fully restored to track ready condition. It was originally owned by a couple of privateer racing friends who took it to a number of motorsport events. In 1961 it finished seventh overall and second in its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

That same year it won first place at the USAC Sports Car race at Pikes Peak. A couple of years later it was sold to a Porsche dealer in California where it was repainted in two-tone yellow and black. It continued to race and went through several different owners. Its latest owner had it fully restored to its original condition with factory-correct components. Power comes from a 1.6-liter flat four with 178 hp, dual Weber carburetors, a five-speed manual, and front and rear disc brakes. Unsurprisingly, it won’t be cheap. RM Auctions predicts it’ll fetch between $2.8 to $3.2 million at auction later this month. Photos courtesy of Patrick Ernzen.
