Ferrari 330 GTS Barn Find to Fetch $2M in Auction

After 44 years out in the cold, this rare Prancing Horse will soon be brought back to life.

A car doesn't have to be found in a barn to be called a “barn find” any more. Nowadays the term can be applied to a vehicle that has simply been hidden away for a long period of time and one that remains in original condition. This particular sleeping beauty spent 44 years resting in Pennsylvania after an engine fire put it out of commission back in 1969. It was discovered last November and next week, Gooding & Co. will put the 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS under the hammer at its Scottsdale, Arizona, auction.

While this particular mid-sixties Ferrari is neither meticulously restored nor a racing thoroughbred, it's value lies in the fact it remains an original with a clear ownership history.Gooding expects a bid “in the neighborhood of $2 million” will be enough to claim the Celeste Blue GTS. The 330 GTS was one of 100 roadsters built, based on the 330 GTC coupe. Despite the fire, which damaged the hood and underside insulation, the 4.0-liter V12 engine turns over freely. That will be the one area the new owner will make sure is in tip-top shape. Finding a vintage Ferrari in unrestored condition is so rare, the rest of the authentic period vehicle will simply receive a good dust and polish.
