Porsche showcases the 911's alter ego, the rally winning 953 [video].

Porsche is reportedly developing an off-road inspired 911 Safari concept for the Beijing Motor Show so it's interesting to note that the company has released a new video showing the 911's rallying pedigree.

In the clip dubbed "Porsche 911's Alter Ego," seven-time Pikes Peak winner Jeff Zwart takes a spin in the 953 which was created for the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally. Three models were entered into the event and René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne successfully won the car class with their 953.

The model's success would eventually lead to the development of the 959 and the all-wheel drive 911s that are still popular today.
