Goes on sale early next year
Volkswagen has announced plans to introduce the US-spec Golf R at the North American International Auto Show.
Designed to be the ultimate Golf, the model is distinguished by an aerodynamic body kit, a four tailpipe exhaust system and 18-inch alloy wheels. The car also has matte chrome mirror caps and a sport-tuned suspension that reduces the ride height by up to 0.8 inches.
The cabin comes nicely equipped with two-tone leather sport seats, Carbon Touch trim and alloy pedals. Other niceties include a three-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting and an infotainment system with up to a 5.8-inch display.
Power will be provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces an estimated 290 bhp (216 kW) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. This will enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds.
Speaking of performance, the Golf R has also been equipped with a 4MOTION all-wheel drive and XDS differentials.
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf R will go on sale in the United States early next year and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
